PCT asks Practitioners to reduce Viagra prescriptions
APRIL 29, 2005
Following an overwhelming demand for sex drugs,
Hertsmere Primary Care Trust (PCT) has urged GPs to cut back on
prescribing them.
The plea results from the report informed that
medical practices within Hertsmere were prescribing sex stimulants,
like Viagra, on a level greater than the regional average.
According to a PCT spokeswoman: "Evidence
suggests that, at present, there is a disparity in relation to prescription
costs and that due to a number of reasons, some practices are prescribing
certain drugs to treat erectile dysfunction to patients who do not
qualify under present NHS guidance.
"The current high quality of patient care
will not be compromised as any final clinical decisions in relation
to an individual patient’s care are the responsibility of
the GP."
"GPs across Hertsmere have accepted this scheme
as a voluntary arrangement," adds Dr Michael Edwards, local
GP and Chair of the Professional Executive Committee.
Since its introduction in 1998, the blue pill
- Viagra, has helped millions of men suffering from Erectile Dysfunction (ED) across the world lead a healthy and fulfilling sexual life.
Hertsmere PCT uses a range of products, including
Viagra, to treat erectile dysfunction.
