Pfizer sues Web sites selling fake Viagra
Friday 5th August, 2004
The U.S. drug company Pfizer is going after more than 30 Internet vendors for selling fake versions of its Viagra anti-impotence pill
USA Today reports the New York drug maker, the only one with Food and Drug Administration approval to sell sildenafil citrate, the chemical name for Viagra, is suing five Web sites and seeking to seize the domain names of other sites that sell counterfeit versions of the pill.
The five Web sites named in Pfizer's trademark infringement suits are yousaverx.com, viagraxonline.com, qualitygenerics.com, myrxforless.com and genericviagrapills.com.
The company also filed complaints against other Web sites with the World Intellectual Property Organization, a U.N. agency dedicated to protecting international patent and copyright laws.
Pfizer, the world's biggest drug maker, reported global revenue from Viagra last year at $1.9 billion.
