Pfizer Suing Viagra Spammers
Date: 13 August 2004
(Article Central) US pharmaceuticals company Pfizer has decided to sue dozens of online pharmacies who are ripping off its "Viagra" brand to marketing knock-off versions of the drug using spam email.
"Generic Viagra" has shot to the top as one of the highest selling products via spam email, as the anonymity of the Internet appeals to men who may feel embarrassed speaking to their physician or pharmacist about sexual performance.
Pfizer has now decided to chase down the imitators and those who have made its hugely successful pills a byword for spam. It will seek an order to remove a large number of Internet domain names that abuse the Viagra trademark - such as www.genericviagra.com, www.genericviagra.info and www.generic-viagra.net.
"Pfizer is taking these steps to help raise consumer awareness about the problems posed by illegitimate online 'pharmacies' and to directly address the source of these problems,” says Jeff Kindler, executive vice president and general counsel at Pfizer. "We want it clearly known that Pfizer does not send or support the sending of spam, which comes from websites that illegally use the Viagra name." source :-http://www.thewhir.com |
