Coming tomorrow, but Viagra stocks yet to reach shelves
December 24, 2005 The wonder capsule that promises
to send your passion levels soaring will be up for sale across the
counter in medical shops from Monday.
Saddled by a spate of enquiries, chemists in south Mumbai are looking
forward to the arrival of Pfizer’s Viagra. Their colleagues
in the suburbs, however, are less enthusiastic. Stocks were yet
to arrive in any of these outlets, at least till this report was
filed.
The original viagra will be priced
at Rs 460 per 50mg capsule and Rs 594 per 100mg capsule, almost
10 times costlier than the generic brands that have been available
for at least five years.
“Those who can afford it are sure to try it at least once,
even though the cost is prohibitive” said Ketan Shah, of Noble
Chemists, Charni Road on Saturday. He believes the Pfizer brand
will sell briskly although cheaper brands are already in the market
since long. But the distributors of the product, through which Pfizer
is supposed to route the new drug, have not yet approached him,
Shah added.
Similarly, K Krishna of Royal Chemists, near KEM Hospital, Parel
said there were many enquiries about the genuine drug, which gave
him hope that the drug would become quite popular. But, he had no
stocks with him.
A salesman in Manish Medical Stores, Borivali(west), also confirmed
that they had still not received stocks of Viagra.
He was not sure whether many people would buy the drug. “We
will have to wait and watch,” he said.
Kailash at Noble Chemists, Santacruz (west) also agreed that nobody
from Pfizer or their distributors had approached him.
He also stressed that the drug was not stocked on his shelves.
