Half the men above 40 in UAE are partially impotent
February 23, 2006
A recent study conducted by the National Institute
of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases revealed that more
than 50 per cent of men above the age of 40 in the UAE suffer from
some degree of impotence. According to the study, stress, depression,
damage to nerves and arteries, lifestyle choices such as smoking,
obesity and avoiding exercise are some of the causes for erectile
dysfunction (ED).
Diseases such as diabetes, chronic alcoholism, multiple sclerosis,
atherosclerosis, vascular disease and neurological diseases account
for about 70 percent of ED cases. Studies have shown that men with
Type 1 diabetes have a greater risk of impotence than those with
Type 2. Between 35 and 50 per cent of men with diabetes experience
erectile dysfunction at some point of their life.
ED is treatable and medication such as Viagra
has been able to benefit millions of ED sufferers across the globe.
