Viagra lessons for doctors to push up sales

Faced with poor sales of Viagra,
the ‘wonder drug’ for erectile
dysfunction, pharmaceutical giant Pfizer is moving to “educate”
medical specialists. When Pfizer launched Viagra in India late last
December, it was expected to become an instant hit. But a month
on, the drug is just not moving off the shelves, if chemists in
Mumbai are to be believed.
The reasons for bad sales are Viagra’s steep price and the
availability of more effective next-generation drugs. Viagra is
priced very high and just not selling,” said Kishore Shah,
president of the Retail and Dispensing Chemists Association. “We
have to seriously think whether to stock it. It is an investment
that is just not giving results.” Sexologists believe Viagra
was launched a little late in India. “These medicines are
meant to help a person to get rid of erectile dysfunction.
