Boy, 2, is youngest to take Viagra
January 10, 2007
A boy of two has become the youngest person in Britain to take
Viagra. Ben Hayes was given the blue sex drug pills to relieve pressure
on his heart, which has a defect. Mum Christine, 29, had to crush
the tablet and mix them with his baby food.
The full-time mum from Belfast told The Sun: 'When I picked up
the prescription at the chemist, people assumed it was for my husband
Roy'. Ben needed the drug after an operation to connect an artery
correctly wasn't successful.
Despite going under the knife, the pressure on his heart continued,
so he had to keep taking Viagra.
He has since had another operation which means he doesn't need
to take the drug. Christine said: 'I couldn't believe it when the
doctors told they were going to give him the drug.
'I'd never even heard of a young baby being given it before. 'He
had Viagra four times a day and each time I had
to crush a quarter of a tablet for him.
'But it certainly did the trick. Before Ben was sleeping virtually
all day long as he had no energy but after taking the Viagra he
had lots more energy and was awake most of the day.'
A spokeswoman for the London's Great Ormond Street Hospital, where
Ben was operated on for the second time, said: 'We're not aware
of anyone in the UK being treated with Viagra at a younger age.'
