Stinging jellyfish, the new Viagra for men
ANI[ THURSDAY, JULY 22, 2004 03:37:21 PM ]
SYDNEY: A jelly fish might soon replace Viagra
as a natural way to ensure prolonged erections, a James Cook University
researcher has revealed.
According to News.com , Lisa-Ann Gershwin, a Phd student at James Cook University, has found an obscure species of the potentially fatal stinging jellyfish that can ensure prolonged erection.
"It's amusing, but it's not a laughing matter from a medical point of view. But it's a potentially large discovery from a pharmaceutical point of view," Gershwin was quoted as saying.
According to Gershwin, Mackay-based stinger expert Dr Peter Fenner was the first to discover this in 1998.
He found that men, stung by the Irukandji jellyfish, experienced prolonged erections. This symptom was defined as Irukandji Syndrome.
"My role has been to actually link up which species I think is responsible for this version of Irukandji Syndrome," Gershwin said.
"What we are sure is we know it's from the Whitsundays/Mackay area. We're also sure it's very rare because there have been only three cases of this phenomenon. Of the species I believe is responsible for it, we only get two specimens a year," she added.
Other symptoms of Irukandji Syndrome include severe pain, a potentially fatal rise in blood pressure and severe cerebral haemorrhaging.
"When you're in the throes of Irukandji Syndrome, having an erection is a really unpleasant thing when you think you're going to die and you've got this whole other thing you've got to deal with. Irukandji Syndrome is not something you do to prepare for a date," Gershwin added. source :-http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com |
